Start with MedlinePlus, by the National Library of Medicine, for a general introduction to many medical topics, often written in a consumer-friendly language. It includes an online medical dictionary, an illustrated encyclopedia, and drug information.
Merck Manual - Consumer Version provides reliable information on medical topics, symptoms, medical emergencies, drug information and medical news and commentary written for the general public. (For more in-depth, scholarly research, there is also a Professional Version).
