Ask-A-Librarian: Virtual Meeting

How to ask Library Staff for help with library services or for assistance with research, citation, and evaluating sources.

Lone Star College-North Harris Library Ask-A-Librarian

Have you tried Chat Reference and Email Reference and are still having trouble? Maybe you need someone to guide you through using a database or you'd like a librarian to review your works cited page? You can schedule an appointment to virtually meet with a librarian. Using special software, librarians can walk you through accessing various library services, providing instruction via audio while showing you by sharing images from their computer.

This service is for current students of Lone Star College. You will be asked to provide your myLoneStar email address and Student ID Number when scheduling your meeting. Because this service uses video and audio, you must have a stable, high-speed internet connection and a computer equipped with a microphone. This service works best when used from a Desktop or Laptop Computer.

Getting Ready for Your Meeting

We use a system called Webex to meet with you virtually. This allows us to talk to you while we share our screen with you. Before you enter the meeting, you will need to install the Webex software on your computer. To do this go to https://www.webex.com/test-meeting.html

At the website, enter a name and email address. You do not have to use your real name or email address. You can enter a made up one. Then click join.

After you click join, you will see the following screen. Click the link near the bottom to download the Webex App.

Depending on your web browser, you will get a slightly different message. When prompted, accept the download.

Once the download is completed, your browser may prompt you to open the installer, or you can navigate to the installer and open it yourself.

Once the Webex software is installed, visit https://www.webex.com/test-meeting.html again. Enter a name and email (remember: you can just make them up!) and click Join. If the software has been installed properly, your browser should ask if you'd like to launch the application. This will look a little different depending on your web browser.

That's it! If the application starts and you are able to join the test meeting, then the software has been installed and you are ready for your meeting.
