Making Models with TinkerCAD

TinkerCAD is a great program for people who have never created any 3D Models before. It's accessible on any computer with a web browser and an Internet connection. You do have to create an account, but this is free and allows you to store and share your models online.

In addition to TinkerCAD, there are a number of software packages that you can use for creating and editing models. Some of these programs are Open Source and Free.

AutoCAD
The standard in CAD design. Create complex models with high precision. Installed on all computers in the library. Tutorials at https://academy.autodesk.com/
3ds MAX
Traditionally used for animation and rendering, it can also be used to produce 3D models for printing. Installed on all computers in the library. Tutorials at https://academy.autodesk.com/
Leopoly
Equipped on the zSpace station within the Makerspace. Use a stylus and special glasses to create and edit models in 3-D. Click to view PDF Tutorial
Gravity Sketch
Create models in virtual reality. Equipped on the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive in the Makerspace. Tutorials at https://www.gravitysketch.com/learn/
Blender
Free and Open Source 3D modeling software. Installed on all PC's in the Makerspace and Library Computer Lab. Tutorials at https://www.blender.org/support/tutorials/
Google Blocks
Create 3D Objects in Virtual Reality and then export them for printing. Equipped on the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive in the Makerspace.
Meshmixer
Great for working with scans and prepping models for print. Free download from Autodesk. Manual at https://help.autodesk.com/view/MSHMXR/2019/ENU/
OpenSCAD
Free Software for use in creating solid, 3D models. Manual at http://www.openscad.org/documentation.html
