Step 1:  Think about your topic!  What questions are you trying to answer?

Step 2:  List terms that best represent the main concepts of your topic.

  • (company) Frito Lay
  • (company and brand) Frito Lay and Lays Potato Chips
  • (industry) airlines in the United States, 311919 "other snack food manufacturing"
  • (current topic) recession, unemployment, downsizing, layoffs

If nothing comes to mind, it is time to do some background research!

Print Books: Search the Library Catalog

  1. Go to the Library Catalog.
  2. Enter search terms.
  3. Browse search results and click on the title to view the detailed item record.
  4. Scroll to the bottom for availability, collection, location, and call number.
  5. To find the book on the shelf you will need the complete call number.
